Be ready at home
Most of what keeps a rural home safe is done long before the trucks are needed. A few habits give volunteers a real head start.
- Test smoke alarms and keep fresh batteries on every floor.
- Post your 911 address where responders can read it from the road, day or night.
- Keep driveways and lanes clear so apparatus can reach the house.
- Clear brush and dry growth back from buildings, especially in a dry season.
